WHAT: House fire.
WHEN: May 14, 2023 at 10:37 a.m.
WHERE: 7200 block of Leader St. 77074.
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: $123,500 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $110,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Large tree snapped and landed on the electrical lines feeding a house.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to check for electrical lines arcing and found a large tree had snapped and landed on the electrical lines feeding a house. There was smoke coming from the broken weatherhead and crews gained access to the homes attic to extinguish smoldering insulation. There were also electrically charged gas lines. The firefighters cooled the lines and requested a priority response from CenterPoint due to an impending fire. HFD crews safely shut off the gas and minimized the amount of water while keeping the lines cool until it was deemed safe after CenterPoint arrived. 14 HFD personnel responded to this incident from Stations 68 and 51.
