WHAT: House Fire
WHEN: May 18, 2022 at 7:53 p.m.
WHERE: 3300 block of Wentworth, 77004
INJURIES: No reported injuries. One cat was given oxygen.
PROPERTY SAVED: $178,822 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $80,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Unintentional.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find smoke coming from a 1-story home and made entry to locate the fire and conduct a primary search. The home was ventilated, and crews knocked down a fire in the kitchen area with some extension to the attic. The primary search was completed, and a cat and dog were found and removed from the house. HFD EMS treated the cat with oxygen and determined the unattended cooking caused the fire. The gas company removed service until the gas line could be tested and The American Red Cross was requested to assist the residents. Firefighters from Stations 25, 46, 7, 8, 18, 27, 23, 16 and 24 responded to this incident.
