Hotel Fire in The Central Northwest Area

WHAT: Hotel fire.

WHEN: January 11, 2023 at 3:09 p.m.

WHERE: 12170 Northwest Freeway, 77092.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: $1,050,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $50,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Unintentional.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find smoke coming from the eaves of a 2-story hotel. They made an offensive attack and conducted a primary search, evacuating the occupants from the building. The roof was ventilated, and crews cut the fire off in the attic. They opened stucco columns to complete final extinguished. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. After viewing video footage, they determined a maintenance man heated up the combustibles inside a column while using a torch to burn the stripping off the parking lot. Firefighters from Stations 2, 4, 5, 13, 50, 77, 62 and 30 responded to this incident.
