WHAT: Garage shop fire.
WHEN: March 30, 2024, at 6:25 a.m.
WHERE: 7720 Westview Dr. 77055.
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.
DAMAGE: $60,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental. (spontaneous combustion of oily rags in trash can.)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from a garage/shop of a small office building. They made access through the security gates and began an offensive attack on the fire. A primary search was completed, and the building was ventilated with fans. The utilities were secured and HFD Hazardous Materials was requested due to run-off. All tests of the run-off were neutral. The fire was extinguished and HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. 38 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 38, 2, 5, 28, 50, 57 and Hazmat.
