City Council Approves Funding For Houston Fire Department Fleet Advancements

HOUSTON - On Wednesday (August 30, 2023), Mayor Sylvester Turner and Houston City Council approved an ordinance authorizing the total appropriation of over $32 million dollars for vehicles and related equipment for various city departments, including the Houston Fire Department (HFD).

This appropriation will cover purchases of various vehicles and fleet maintenance equipment related to HFD emergency response.

In Fiscal Year 2024 HFD plans to acquire:
• 16 transport units
• 7 engines
• 3 ladder trucks
Over the last 6 years, Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña and the HFD administration have worked diligently in replacing aging fleet. These purchases will serve to sustain and enhance the department's capabilities to respond to local and regional emergencies. A special thanks to Mayor Sylvester Turner and Houston City Council for continuously supporting the needs and initiatives of the Houston Fire Department.
