BARC, the City of Houston’s Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, will be hosting a “Rescue Rally” from Friday, June 10, through Thursday, June 30, 2022. Throughout these dates, BARC will utilize more than $15,000 made available by Mayor Sylvester Turner and District C Council Member Abbie Kamin to provide sponsorship dollars for any rescue that pulls pets from the City’s Animal Shelter.
To participate, rescue groups must follow the BARC tagging process to tag and pull dogs into their program, and all tagged dogs must leave the shelter within 24 hours. Groups who are not currently approved as a BARC rescue can visit http://www.houstontx.gov/barc/Rescue2.html to get more details on the requirements to become an approved BARC rescue organization. The event will cover all qualifying dogs transferred to rescues during the rally period until funding is depleted.
“While we encourage rescue partners to focus on dogs that have been in shelter for more than 20 days, all dogs that have been in our shelter 10 days or more will be eligible for the financial incentive,” said Greg Damianoff, BARC Shelter Director. “The sponsorship funding could incentive rescues to potentially save more than 200 shelter animals. We’re incredibly grateful to Mayor Turner and Council Member Kamin for committing these funds to help support our dedicated rescue partners.”
Sponsorship Funding will be available for:
- Dogs in shelter greater than 20 days – $100
- Dogs in shelter between 10 – 19 days – $75
- * Moms with litters will count as one.
Each rescue group must register with the city as a vendor to receive the reimbursement. Visit https://purchasing.houstontx.gov/index.html to register, or contact the Vendor’s Assistance Desk at [email protected] or by calling 832.393.8800.
Each rescue group must submit an invoice by Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at https://rb.gy/cswwui with their rescue’s name and contact information along with a list of animals rescued during this time frame. The invoice must include the animal name, animal ID, age, breed, and species.
