WHAT: Apartment fire.
WHEN: April 17, 2024, at 2:22 p.m.
WHERE: 3131 Hayes Rd. 77082.
INJURIES: One civilian with minor injury transported to the hospital. Several deceased pets.
PROPERTY SAVED: $75,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $75,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Unintentional.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within two minutes to find smoke coming from the second floor of a 2-story apartment building. An occupant was treated and transported to the hospital by HFD EMS for smoke inhalation while attempting to rescue pets. Crews made an offensive attack and conducted a primary search. They quickly extinguished a fire that started on the stove top. There was severe damage to the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the unit. Several pets were recovered by the firefighters, however only one survived. The American Red Cross was requested for the residents and apartment management was notified. 36 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 78, 83, 10, 60, 69, 6, 75 and 57.
