WHAT: Apartment fire.
WHEN: April 17, 2023 at 5:41 p.m.
WHERE: 3603 Alice St. 77021.
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: $1,355,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $55,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental (candles).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find light smoke coming from an opened front door of a second-floor apartment unit. They made an offensive attack and conducted a primary search. The crews encountered worsening conditions and ventilated the unit. The nearby units were checked and evacuated. Crews extinguished the fire and requested HFD Arson investigators to determine the cause and origin. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the families displaced by the fire. Firefighters from Stations 23, 21, 46, 24, 25, 33, 35, 7 and 80 responded to this incident.
