CAUSE: Unintentional (cooking)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within three minutes to find a moderate amount of smoke coming from a second-floor apartment. They made an offensive attack and conducted a primary search. Two families were removed from the units below the apartment. Crews extinguished the fire within about ten minutes. The residents were cooking with hot oil when it started a fire and despite their efforts to smoother it, spread to the cabinets and the to rest of the apartment. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the displaced families who were provided a place in an EMS unit to stay warm during the incident. Firefighters from Stations 68, 73, 82, 10, 51 and 57 responded to this incident.
