WHAT: Apartment fire.

CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental (discarded smoking material catching mattress on fire).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find smoke coming from the first floor of a 2-story apartment building. They made a fast attack on the fire and ventilated the unit. The crews quickly controlled and extinguished the fire involving a mattress. The fire caused damage throughout the bedroom. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. 31 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 68, 83, 10, 73, 76 and 57.
