Suspect Arrested, Charged in Man’s Death at 200 Chartres Street

Houston police have arrested a male in the death of a man found at 200 Chartres Street about 11 p.m. on Saturday (May 30).

The suspect, Robert Herman Smith, 31, is charged with murder in the 482nd Criminal District Court.  A booking photo of Smith is attached to this news release.

The identity of the deceased male is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Cater and A. Beiza reported: 

Officers responded to a report of a deceased male on the sidewalk at the above address and found the victim.  He was pronounced dead at the scene and responding Houston Forensic Science personnel stated the victim had injuries to his neck.  

While investigating the death of the male, Smith approached officers and confessed to his role in the man’s death.  He was then arrested and booked into the Harris County jail.
