The victim was crossing the street – in a crosswalk – when he was struck by a gray Honda Accord traveling westbound.  The driver of the Honda, later identified as Petties, did not stop to render assistance, but pulled into a nearby driveway, called 9-1-1 then fled the scene on foot.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

Petties returned to the scene approximately two hours later with family members.  He was taken into custody and subsequently charged for his role in the crash.
