WHAT: Duplex fire.
WHEN: March 8, 2024, at 3:37 p.m.
WHERE: 7500 block of Lockwood Dr. 77016.
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: $50,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $75,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Unintentional (heat source too close to combustible).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find smoke and fire coming from a 1-story duplex. They made an offensive attack and ventilated the building. The utilities were secured, and the exposures were checked. The crews extinguished the fire which appeared to be accidental with a curling iron left on a couch near the area of origin and a breaker tripped in the electrical box. The American Red Cross was requested for the residents. 32 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 15, 19, 34, 32, 43, 56 and 30.
