WHAT: House fire.
WHEN: February 17, 2024, at 3:06 p.m.
WHERE: 5200 block of Higgins St. 77033.
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: $18,500 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $35,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Unintentional (electric failure, malfunction, other - space heater).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find heavy smoke coming from a house and made an offensive attack. The home was ventilated and due to strong wind gusts, additional HFD units were added to the incident. Crews extinguished the fire which was contained to a bedroom, hallway and bathroom area with heavy smoke damage throughout the structure. It was determined that a floor heater had overloaded an extension cord, causing the fire. The American Red Cross was requested for the residents. 37 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 23, 26, 46, 35, 55 and 24.
