Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting incident in which a suspect was fatally shot and a juvenile male and an adult male were injured at 3700 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 1:55 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 11).
The female suspect is identified as Genessee Moreno, 36.
HPD Officer C. Moreno, who discharged his weapon, was not injured in the incident. Officer Moreno is assigned to the HPD South Central Patrol Division and was sworn in as an officer in January 2023. A Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission (TABC) officer also discharged his weapon and was not injured in the incident.

The suspect, wearing a trench coat, and a juvenile male entered a church at the above address. The suspect produced a rifle from under the coat, forced their way into the lobby and began shooting. HPD Officer Moreno, who was off-duty and working an extra job at the location, heard the shooting and approached to investigate. At that time, Officer Moreno exchanged gunfire with the suspect.
An off-duty TABC officer, also working an extra job at the location, approached the scene and saw the suspect and Officer Moreno exchanging gunfire. The TABC officer also exchanged gunfire with the suspect.
The suspect was struck multiple times. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene.
The juvenile male, 7, was wounded during the incident and transported by paramedics to an area hospital in critical condition. One adult male, 57, suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
As is customary in officer involved shooting incident in the Houston city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
