The fatal shooting of a male at 10010 Kempwood Drive about 10:45 a.m. on Thursday (January 26) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The male shooter was not injured in the incident.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Persad and Detective L. Gonzales reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and found a male unresponsive at the base of a stairwell where he was pronounced deceased by Houston Fire Department paramedics. One person was detained at the scene.
A preliminary investigation determined a male resident (shooter) was awakened by a noise at his door and found an unknown male inside his apartment. The resident discharged a firearm at the intruder, who was struck by the gunfire. The shooter remained at the location and provided a statement to homicide detectives.
After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, this case will be referred to a grand jury for review.
