Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 4347 Oak Shadows Drive about 12:55 p.m. on Saturday (November 5).
The identity of the female child, 1, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Patterson and Officer K. Stout reported:
The driver of a black Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck pulled into a driveway at a residence at the above address where a female got out of the vehicle and went inside the house. The female child (victim) then ran outside and a resident inside the house saw her leave. The resident chased the child outside but the driver of the truck had been backing up and unknowingly struck the child.
The driver stopped after residents yelled for him to stop. At that time, the child was place in the vehicle and transported to Memorial Herman Greater Heights Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Investigators spoke with the driver and determined him not to be impaired. Per the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, he was not charged.
The investigation is continuing.
