Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 900 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 1:20 a.m. today (February 19).
The suspect, Philip Alexander Breaux (w/m, 21) is charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault in the 185th State District Court. A booking photo of Alexander, who remains hospitalized, is not available at this time.
The identity of the deceased male victim, 25, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. A second male victim, 25, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer M. Mathews reported:
The victim, driving a black Chevrolet Cruze, entered the Gulf Freeway southbound ramp from Houston Avenue when Breaux, driving a black BMW 3 the wrong way on the Gulf Freeway southbound ramp from Pierce Street, struck the Chevrolet head-on.
The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The passenger in the Chevrolet was transported to a hospital with broken bones. Breaux was transported to a hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined Breaux was impaired and he was subsequently charged in the crash.
