Mr. Mendoza was at home when he received a text message from Acosta, a woman he had been dating the past few months. Acosta asked Mendoza to come outside his residence. Soon after exiting his residence, Mendoza was shot at by Hernandez, who was sitting inside a black Nissan Altima, which Acosta was driving. Mendoza suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital.
