Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of a woman at 8103 Woodward Street about 1:25 a.m. on Sunday (August 25).
The suspect, Sean Antoni McLean (b/m, 29), is charged with murder and aggravated assault of a family member in the 230th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Garfield Smith, 33, who was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital and the wounding of Karnisha Watkins, 27, who was transported to the same hospital with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Horn and Detective K. McDonald reported:
Ms. Watkins and Mr. Smith were in front of Watkins’ home at the above address when a silver Chrysler 300, driven by Watkins’ ex-boyfriend, McLean, approached them. Words were exchanged between McLean and Smith. McLean fired shots from inside the vehicle at Smith, who was struck in the chest, forearm and shoulder. Watkins was wounded in the stomach. Paramedics transported Watkins and Smith to the hospital.
Several hours later, McLean turned himself in to investigators and was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.
