2-Alarm Warehouse Fire in The Greater Fifth Ward

WHAT: 2-alarm plastics recycling warehouse.

WHEN: November 11, 2023, at 9:03 a.m.

WHERE: 2000 Semmes St. 77026.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.

DAMAGE: $1,000,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental due to an unspecified electrical fault.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find heavy fire coming from a plastics recycling warehouse. They made a defensive attack, and a second alarm was requested. Multiple hose lines were used as well as aerial operations to control the fire. Rehab, EMS and decontamination were established for the responding crews. HFD Hazardous Materials monitored the water runoff and water quality. There were no abnormal readings. CenterPoint secured the utilities and monitored for gas leaks, finding none. The firefighters extinguished the fire and a Firewatch was placed to ensure the fire did not reignite. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. 98 personnel were dispatched to this incident, including crews from Stations 19, 17, 15, 5, 6, 8, 20, 7, 9, 12, 27, 11, 24, 18, 37 and 30.
