2-Alarm Large House Fire in The Memorial Area

WHAT: 2-Alarm house fire.

WHEN: December 8, 2022 at 8:17 p.m.

WHERE: 13100 block of Apple Tree Rd. 77079.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: $750,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $350,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Under investigation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within a minute to find light smoke coming from a very large 2-story house. The homeowner reported the house was vacant and under renovations. Crews made an offensive attack and secured the utilities. There was a great amount of heat signatures coming from the roof and crews encountered heavy smoke and extremely low visibility in the home. The home was ventilated with flames coming through the roof and additional smoke coming from the attic and roof space. A defensive attack was initiated with all crews evacuating the structure. A second alarm was requested, and elevated streams helped to keep the fire in check. Due to the extended operations of the ladder pipe, the fire was brought under control. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. Firefighters from Stations 69, 50, 2, 15, 5, 28, 78, 83, 10, 49, 57, 60, 75, 86, 11, 6, 37, 30, Rescue 10, Rehab 17, Hazmat 22 and 66, and the Village Fire Department responded to this incident.
