WHAT: 2-Alarm Apartment Fire.

CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental due to an unspecified electrical malfunction.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find fire and smoke coming from an apartment building. Crews made an offensive attack and upgraded the fire to a 2-alarm due to the fire spreading from a laundry room into the residential units. HFD Arson investigators responded to the scene and determined that the cause was caused by an unspecified electrical malfunction and classified as accidental. 24 apartment units were damaged, displacing about 30 residents. The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the families. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for a non-life-threatening injury. The fire was controlled by 4:30 p.m. Nearly 100 firefighters, from Stations 4, 77, 50, 2, 50, 5, 6, 31, 34, 13, 58, 66, 67, 11, 49, 96, 8, 9, 15, 30, 57, Heavy Rescue 11 and Rehab 17 responded to this incident.
