2-Alarm Apartment Fire in The Alief Area

 

WHAT: 2-Alarm Apartment Fire.

WHEN: April 24, 2022 at 11:29 a.m.

WHERE: 6700 S. Dairy Ashford, 77072

INJURIES: One firefighter injured and transported to the hospital with non-life threating injury.

CAUSE: Under investigation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find heavy smoke coming from the second floor of an apartment building and made an offensive attack. Crews searched and evacuated the building. A second alarm was requested when heavy fire began coming from the roof and a defensive attach was initiated. A defensive attack was initiated, and the bulk of the fire was knocked down with ladder pipe operations. A fire in the nearby bayou was also controlled. Firefighters rotated suppression efforts and went to rehab until the fire was completely extinguished. One firefighter suffered from a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to the hospital. Crews remained on scene to ensure all hotspots were out and HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. The American Red Cross responded to the incident to aid the residents. Firefighters from Stations 83, 28, 57, 60, 73, 69, 75, 76, 78, 37 and 10 responded to this incident.
