HPD Major Assaults Unit Officers J. Roberts and G. Black reported:
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a gas station parking lot at the above address and were advised the victim was sitting in a friend’s car with two other persons (Damper and a male). While playing with two pistols in the car, Damper discharged the weapon, striking the victim, who was sitting in the front seat. When officers arrived, they detained Damper and a witness for questioning. Their hands were bagged so they could be tested for gunshot residue. While detained, Damper attempted to destroy the evidence by wiping off any gunshot residue that may have been present. Damper was arrested at the scene for attempting to destroy evidence.
Investigators continued to gather evidence, including video of the shooting incident, and monitor the victim’s condition. The additional evidence was presented to prosecutors with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, who then accepted the additional charge of aggravated assault- serious bodily injury.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of suspect Damper or on this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
