Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the shooting of a man at 10221 Club Creek Road about 10 p.m. on Wednesday (August 14).
The suspect, Epifanio Hernandez (H/m, 46), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 180th State District Court. He is accused in the shooting of Edgar Gonzalez-Herrera, 38, who was transported to an area hospital where doctors expect him to recover.
A photo of Hernandez, who is not in custody, is not available for release at this time.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers B. Salazar and A. Williams reported:
Mr. Gonzalez-Herrera was sitting and drinking with a friend in front of a closed business at the above address when two male suspects drove up in a blue, older model two-door vehicle. The driver, known to Gonzalez-Herrera as “Antonio,” and his passenger exited the vehicle and greeted Gonzalez-Herrera.
As “Antonio” walked toward the store, the passenger returned to the vehicle and retrieved a shotgun. He then pointed the gun at Gonzalez-Herrera and fired several shots, striking Gonzalez-Herrera more than once. “Antonio” ran back and said, “Cousin, what did you do?” before he and the shooter jumped in their vehicle and fled the scene. HFD paramedics transported Gonzalez-Herrera to the hospital.
Later that day, the driver of the vehicle came forward and told investigators Epifanio Hernandez was the shooter.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Epifanio Hernandez or in this case is urged to contact the HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
