UPDATE: Suspect Charged, Wanted in Fatal Shooting at 1146 Sheffield Boulevard

Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 1146 Sheffield Boulevard about 3 p.m. on January 13.

The suspect, Jose Everardo Castorena III, 31, is charged with murder in the 182nd State District Court. A previous booking photo from June 2018 of Castorena III, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.

He is accused in the death of Lupe Adam Mungia, 35.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Collier and J. Stroble reported:

Officers responded to a shooting at the above address and found Mr. Mungia suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.  Mungia was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  Witnesses stated an unknown male suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Further investigation, evidence form the scene and witness statements identified Castorena III as the suspect in this case.  The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and Castorena III was subsequently charged for his role in the incident.  He currently remains at-large.
