Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in a fatal hit-and-run crash at 9500 Clearwood Drive about 1:20 a.m. on September 26.
The suspect, Chantay Solano-Saldana, 26, is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 263rd State District Court. She is not in custody. A 2021 booking photo of Solano-Saldana is attached to this news release.
She is wanted for her role in the death of Evelina Channel McKenzie, 37.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Le and Officer J. Louangpho reported:
A black Dodge Charger was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed at the above address when the vehicle veered off the street and struck a light pole. The impact caused the Dodge to roll over and then strike Ms. McKenzie, a pedestrian. Paramedics pronounced her deceased at the scene.Four persons were inside the Dodge at the time of the crash. Witnesses observed the female driver run from the scene. Officers detained the three passengers for questioning.
Further investigation led to the identity of Solano-Saldana as the suspect driver and she was subsequently charged in the crash.
Officers have been unable to locate Solano-Saldana and are urging anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
