HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Brooks and C. Cegielski reported:
Mr. Reyes and Lopez were in the street in the 6700 block of Westover when they got into an argument over money and drugs. The argument escalated and Lopez pulled a handgun and fired multiple shots at Reyes. Lopez then attempted to flee in a gray Nissan Sentra. An HPD officer was nearby when he heard the gunshots and drove in the direction of the shooting. As he drove towards the shooting, in a marked police vehicle, he attempted to catch up with Lopez in the Nissan. As Lopez slowed for a sharp curve in the road, he pointed his handgun out of the driver's window in the direction of the officer. The officer slowed and was able to take evasive action. Lopez continued to flee at a high rate of speed. The Nissan was recovered several hours later.
Further investigation developed information on Lopez's whereabouts and he was taken into custody on Monday (June 20) without incident.
