UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting at 3300 Montrose Boulevard

A suspect wanted and charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 3300 Montrose Boulevard about 1:10 p.m. on April 29 is in custody.

The suspect, Jiterion Kegler (b/m, 19), is charged with murder in the 178th State District Court.  A booking photo of Kegler is attached to this news release.

The victim, Michael Ubani, 50, was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers K. Persad and R. Rivera reported:

Officers responded to a shooting call in a parking lot of a business at the above address and found Mr. Ubani, a cab driver, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.  Citizens in the area had called 911 and attempted to render medical aid to Ubani.  Paramedics arrived and transported Ubani to the hospital where he was pronounced dead the following day (April 30).

Officers detained several persons of interest and witnesses at the scene, and also located the suspect vehicle and two of its occupants from information given by the witnesses.  All witnesses were cooperative and provided information leading to the identification of the suspect as Jiterion Kegler.

Acting on a Crime Stoppers tip that Kegler was located in Bellville, Texas, officers with the Bellville Police Department found him in the attic of an apartment last Friday (May 3).  Kegler was taken into custody without further incident and then transported back to Houston later that day.
