HPD patrol officers responded to a stabbing at a fast food restaurant at the above address. Officers learned the victim, an off-duty Surfside Police Department officer, who was not in uniform, entered the restaurant and became aware that a male suspect was inside exposing himself. The Surfside PD officer told the suspect he had to leave and, as he was escorting the suspect out of the business, a physical altercation ensued in the parking lot. During the altercation, the suspect stabbed the Surfside officer multiple times in the leg.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the Surfside PD officer to the hospital. The suspect fled the scene in a silver, four-door hatchback prior to HPD officers’ arrival.
Further investigation identified Castaneda as the suspect in this case and, on Thursday (March 31), he was arrested following a vehicle pursuit with HPD Southeast Patrol Division officers and subsequently charged for his role in both incidents.
