UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 8600 Pitner Road

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in an incident in which shots were fired at 8600 Pitner Drive about 9:35 p.m. on August 13.

The suspect, Jose Daniel Escalante (H/m, 20), is charged with discharge of a firearm in the metro area in Harris County Criminal Court #14.  A photo of Escalante is attached to this news release.

Two HPD officers, initially thought to be the target of the shooting, were not injured.  Both officers are assigned to the Northwest Patrol Division.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers V. Habukiha and A. Graf reported:

The patrol officers, riding as a two-man unit, were patrolling the area and traveling eastbound at the above address when they passed a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.  The driver (suspect) began shooting toward the officers.  When the officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the suspect got out of the driver’s seat carrying a long gun and ran.

Neither the officers nor their patrol vehicle were struck by the gunfire.

Further investigation identified Escalante as a suspect in this case.  Investigators also learned he had fired the firearm in the air, not towards the officers.  He was subsequently arrested and charge in this incident.
