UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 2902 North Shepherd Drive

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a Harris County Precinct 5 Constable deputy about 8:20 p.m. on October 16.

The suspect, Keith Lamar Thomas (b/m, 25), is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated assault of a police officer in the 228th State District Court.  A booking photo of Thomas is attached to this news release.

The deputy constable was shot at least one time and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition.

Investigators in the HPD Special Investigations Unit and Robbery Division reported:

An unknown suspect, armed with a pistol, robbed patrons and employees inside a fast food restaurant at the above address.  When exiting the business, the suspect was confronted by a uniformed Harris County Precinct 5 Constable deputy working an extra job at the location.  The suspect fired multiple shots at the deputy, striking him at least once.  Paramedics transported the deputy to the hospital where doctors stated he is expected to recover.  The suspect fled the scene.

Further investigation, with assistance from the HPD North Patrol Division and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), identified the suspect as Keith Thomas and he was arrested on Tuesday (Oct. 22) without incident.
