UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in September 2024 Fatal Shooting at 9500 Southwest Freeway

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man found at 9500 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) service road about 10:50 a.m. on September 7, 2024.

The suspect, Erik Humberto Gomez Gante, 19, is charged with murder in the 337th State District Court.  A booking photo of Gomez Gante is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Miguel Rodriguez, 49.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives L. Lovelace and M. Hughey reported:

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division detectives responded to a crash at the above address.  A preliminary investigation determined a red Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling southbound on the service road when it left the roadway and struck a power line pole.  The vehicle flipped onto its left side.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the driver, Mr. Rodriguez, deceased.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences responded to the scene and, upon further investigation, determined Rodriguez had suffered a gunshot wound.  HPD Homicide Division detectives responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.

At that time, there were no known witnesses or suspects in the shooting.

Further investigation identified Gomez Gante as a suspect in this case.  The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and a murder warrant was issued.  Gomez Gante was arrested today (March 20) by members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and booked into the Harris County Jail.
