UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in July Fatal Shooting at 9450 Woodfair Drive

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 9450 Woodfair Drive about 7:45 a.m. on July 21.

The suspect, Daniel Vargas Cartagena, 30, is charged with murder in the 337th State District Court.  He was in the Harris County Jail for a previous capital murder charge.

He is accused for his role in the July killing of Richard Reyes Aguilera, 26.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants A. Lopez, M. Holbrook and Detectives N. Sharp and R. Lujan reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a call of a deceased person at the apartment complex at the above address.  Officers located an unresponsive man with an apparent gunshot wound in a storage closet attached to an apartment unit.  Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the man, later identified as Mr. Reyes Aguilera deceased.

According to witnesses, Reyes Aguilera left the residence about 5 a.m., however, no altercation or gunshots were heard prior to him being found more than two hours later.

Further investigation identified Cartagena as the suspect in this case.  Last Thursday (Dec. 19), Cartagena was charged with murder.  Detectives learned he was in jail on charges in the fatal shooting of a woman at 9430 Concourse Drive on September 4.
