UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in January Fatal Shooting at 7100 Renwick Drive

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 7100 Renwick Drive about 11:55 p.m. on January 31.

The suspect, William Emmanuel Martinez Landaverde, 21, is charged with capital murder in the 230th State District Court.  A booking photo of Martinez Landaverde is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Jason Perez, 18.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Graf II and E. Torres II reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and found an unresponsive male with gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the male, later identified as Mr. Perez, deceased.

A preliminary investigation indicated Perez was shot by two unknown male suspects during a robbery.  The suspects, described only as two Hispanic males wearing black hoodies and blue jeans, fled the scene in a gray or silver sedan of unknown make or model.

Further investigation identified Martinez Landaverde as a suspect in this case and, on February 3, Martinez Landaverde was arrested on unrelated charges.  The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and today (February 19), Martinez Landaverde was subsequently charged for his role in Perez’s death.
