Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man and wounding of a woman at 4601 Almeda Genoa Road about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 13).
The suspect, Trevon Demas, 19, is charged with murder in the 176th State District Court. A booking photo of Demas is attached to this news release.
He is accused in the killing of Donald James, 29, and wounding of an adult female.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Castillo, B. Stephens and J. Diaz reported:
Mr. James got into an argument with a female outside a bar at the above address when an unknown male suspect walked up and shot him. James was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics. A female bystander, in her 20s or 30s, was struck in the arm by the gunfire. She was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Further investigation identified Demas as the suspect in this case. While surrendering to authorities at the Harris County Joint Processing Center on Wednesday (Aug. 17) for a separate felony charge, Demas was questioned by HPD detectives and subsequently charged in this shooting case.
