Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of one man and the wounding of another that occurred at 3341 Winbern Street about 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 9.
Joshua Toliver, 30, is charged with murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a weapon in the 262nd State District Court. A booking photo of Toliver is attached to this news release.
Craig Jefferson, 34, was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. A second male, 45, was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives C. Vaughn and A. Herrera reported:
Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at a convenience store at the above address and observed two males with gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported the victims to an area hospital where one of the men was later pronounced deceased.
It is believed the deceased male and the suspect, described only as a black male, got into an argument that escalated into the shooting. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
Further investigation identified the suspect as Toliver and, on Wednesday (Jan. 30) he was arrested without incident. He was subsequently charged for his role in the case.
At this time the department does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
