Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 2111 San Jacinto Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of another at 2111 San Jacinto Street about 2:55 p.m. on July 31.

Jahdari Hatton, 24, is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 337th State District Court. A booking photo of Hatton is attached to this news release.

He is accused in the fatal shooting of Jonathan Pettway, 26. A second male, 18, suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant N. Lazo and Detective M. Providence reported:

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a convenience store at the above address and found Mr. Pettway inside suffering a gunshot wound. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Pettway to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A second male suffered a graze wound and was treated and released at the scene.

Investigators learned that a fight broke out inside of the store, which led to a suspect (Hatton) producing a firearm and firing multiple rounds into the store. Both victims were struck.

Further investigation identified Hatton as a suspect in this case. Last Friday (August 18), Hatton was arrested by the HPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, the HPD Southwest Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team and members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force without incident.
