Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 2100 Broadway Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 2100 Broadway Street about 7:10 p.m. on May 8.

The suspect, Jorge Alberto Acosta, 54, is charged with murder in the 179th State District Court. A booking photo of Acosta is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Sebastian Maquin-Cuz, 38.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Ledford and M. Barton reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and found the victim lying in the grass unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

According to witnesses, Mr. Maquin-Cruz and an unknown suspect got into a verbal altercation before the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim at least once.

Further investigation identified the suspect as Acosta.  On Wednesday (May 22) Acosta was arrested and admitted to his role in the shooting.  He was subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County Joint Processing Center.
