| Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 13001 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) service road #122 about 2:15 a.m. on May 29, 2019.
The suspect, Bertrel Antonio Holt, Jr., 28, is charged with murder in the 482nd State District Court. He is accused in the death of Ernest Smith, 39.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives W. Huff and J. Nguyen reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to an assault call at a motel at the above address. Upon arrival, they found Houston Fire Department paramedics treating Mr. Smith prior to taking him to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Witnesses reported hearing arguing and then seeing Smith and two unknown suspects fighting. During the altercation, Smith was shot. The suspects fled the scene.
Further investigation identified Holt, Jr. as a suspect in this case and, on January 28, a murder charge was filed. Holt was arrested on Tuesday (February 1) without incident.
