UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 1219 Murrayhill Drive

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man found at 1219 Murrayhill Drive about 3:35 p.m. last Thursday (May 26).

The suspect, Nace Smith, 41, is charged with murder in the 182nd State District Court.  He is accused in the death of Charley Walker, 40.

A booking photo of Smith is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Smith and Detective M. Estep reported:

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the residence at the above address and found Mr. Walker on the back porch.  Walker had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics.

At that time, there was no known motive or suspect.  Detectives believe Walker knew the suspect and they may have had an argument in the days prior to the shooting.

Last Friday (May 27), Smith was arrested by HPD patrol officers for unlawfully carrying a weapon.  Knowing Smith was possibly linked to the murder of Walker, HPD homicide detectives were advised of the arrest.  Smith was questioned by homicide detectives, admitted to his role in the fatal shooting of Walker and was subsequently charged.
