Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of one man and the wounding of another that occurred at 11810 Algonquin Drive about 1:05 p.m. on January 8.
The suspect, Javon Chatman (b/m, 22), is charged with capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 174th State District Court. A booking photo of Chatman is not currently available. One victim, Jesse Perez, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man, Julian Giovanni Vives, 22, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition. HPD Homicide Division Sergeants S. Murdock and H. Hay reported: Officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex at the above address and found Mr. Perez deceased in a bedroom. The second man (Vives) and a witness stated they were asleep when the sound of gunfire awakened them. When Vives went into the hallway to see what was happening, the suspects then shot him in the hip as they fled the scene. The suspects were described only as four black males, one of them carrying a long gun. Further investigation led to the identification and charging of Chatman as one of the suspects in this case. On February 17, he was arrested by an outside agency on unrelated charges. Anyone with information in this case or the identity of the additional suspects is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
