UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in 2011 Fatal Assault at 3409 Roseland Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal assault of a man at 3409 Roseland Street about 5:45 p.m. on November 15, 2011.

The suspect, Michael Anthony Cuellar (H/m, 52), is charged with murder in the 337th State District Court.  A booking photo of Cuellar is attached to this news release.

The victim, Roland Darby Suiter, 85, suffered blunt force trauma to the head.  He was transported to an area hospital where, on May 20, 2012, he died from his injuries.

HPD Homicide Division Cold Case Squad Detectives R. Cervantes, P. Vela and R. Lujan reported:

On November 15, 2011, HPD patrol officers responded to the residence at the above address.  Upon arrival, they learned an unknown suspect had entered Mr. Suiter’s home and assaulted him.  Suiter, who lived alone, was transported to the hospital where he remained until his death six months later.  The investigation revealed Suiter was missing a large sum of money.

An autopsy determined Suiter died due to complications from the assault.  His death was then ruled a homicide.  Detectives continued investigating the case until all leads were exhausted.  In 2017, the case was subsequently assigned to the Homicide Division Cold Case Squad for review.  New evidence obtained from this investigation led to the identification of Michael Anthony Cuellar as the suspect in this case.

On Wednesday (June 16), Cuellar was arrested and charged with murder for his role in Suiter’s death.
