Houston police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect, but are no longer seeking a person of interest sought in the fatal shooting of a man at 7408 South Sam Houston Parkway West service road (Beltway 8) about 12:50 p.m. on March 5.
The person of interest, Deonte Thomas, 41, was wanted for questioning. Detectives made contact with Mr. Thomas and determined he was not involved in any wrongdoing in the incident. The victim, Phillip J. Rogers, 42, was pronounced deceased at the scene. HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Heaverlo and A. Dudley reported: HPD patrol officers responded to a business parking lot at the above address and found Mr. Rogers in the driver’s seat of a truck, suffering from gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced Rogers deceased. At the time, there was no known motive or suspect(s).
