UPDATE: Investigation into Shooting Incident at 729 West Mount Houston Road

Houston police have learned the identity of an armed suspect fatally shot at 729 West Mount Houston Road about 5:45 p.m. on Saturday (April 9).The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has identified the male as Richard Nichols, 48.Three HPD officers who discharged weapons in the incident were not injured.  The officers are assigned to the North Patrol Division.  Officer D. Blackerby was sworn in as an officer in December 2018, Officer J. Pavlica in December 2014 and Officer J. Mayfield in August 2021.  HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant J. Hekimian and Detectives N. Arellano, W. Elliott, V. Nguyen and D. Escobar reported:Officers received information that a male suspect, known to carry firearms, was trespassing at a business at the above address.  Officers obtained the male’s description and learned he had a parole violation for organized criminal activity.  The officers arrived at the location and found the suspect in a small room inside the business. While officers were giving the suspect verbal commands, he reached for a weapon.  At that time, three officers discharged their weapons, striking the suspect several times.  The male was transported an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.Update JFC/VHS  4-14-22JFC/JKS   4-12-22Inc #046874922
