Houston police have learned the identity of a man found fatally stabbed about 11:10 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 7).
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has identified the victim as Altaf Hussain Malik, 43, of Richmond.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Brady and Officers R. Watson and S. Ragsdale reported:
A resident taking out trash to the dumpster outside an apartment complex at the above address found a male’s body covered in trash bags in the dumpster. Officers and paramedics arrived and determined the male had sustained stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were no known witnesses located at the scene.
Further investigation determined that on Wednesday (Dec. 6), members of Mr. Malik’s family contacted the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office to report him missing. Sheriff’s detectives launched a comprehensive investigation to locate Malik and were told he had left his house about 8 p.m. on Tuesday (Dec. 5) to meet an unknown person regarding the sale of his (Malik’s) vehicle.
Investigators believe Malik went to the area of Bellaire Boulevard and State Highway 6 to sell his 2009 blue Audi A8 with Texas license plates HZX9910.
Detectives from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office and HPD are working together in this investigation.
