UPDATE: Charges Upgraded Against Suspect in Fatal Stabbing at 10950 Beaumont Highway

NOTE: Suspect initially charged under an alias name.

Charges have been upgraded against a suspect arrested in the stabbing of a man at 10950 Beaumont Highway about 10:45 a.m. on February 10 after investigators learned the victim later died.

The suspect, David Luke Davis (w/m, 69), also known as Gilbert Nelson III, was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  The charge has been upgraded to murder in the 174th State District Court.  A booking photo of Davis (Nelson) is attached to this news release.

Davis is accused in the stabbing of Cody McCurley, 29, who was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased six days later (on Feb. 16).

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers S. Hall and A. Johnson reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a stabbing at a halfway house at the above address and determined suspect Davis, a resident of the facility, had stabbed Mr. McCurley in the neck area while in a common shower room.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported McCurley to the hospital.

Davis was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged for his role in the incident.
