Two Suspects Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 5601 Royal Palms Street

Charges have been filed against two suspects arrested in the shooting of a man at 5601 Royal Palms Street about 8:50 a.m. on April 29.

One suspect, Kaleb Jocorey Smith (b/m, 19), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and deadly conduct in the 185th State District Court.  The other suspect, Dedrick Dewayne Rambo (b/m, 36), is charged with felon in possession of a weapon in the 248th State District Court.  Booking photos of Smith and Rambo are attached to this news release.

The suspects are accused in the shooting of Jamaine Harnsberry, 26, who was transported to an area hospital.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officer C. Grahmann reported:

A suspect kicked in the front door of an apartment at the above address, however the security latch prevented it from swinging all the way open.  A witness looked out the window and, seeing nothing, opened the door.  The suspect then forced his way in to the apartment and went into the bedroom of the female tenant, 25, as she was waking up.  Mr. Harnsberry left the apartment through the bedroom window and, as he was leaving in his vehicle, the suspect shot at him multiple times.  Harnsberry was struck one time in the chest.  Paramedics transported him to a hospital.

Further investigation led to the identity of Kaleb Smith as the shooter and Dedrick Rambo as a second suspect in this incident.  Smith was taken into custody on April 29 and Rambo was arrested by HPD Southeast Patrol Division officers today (May 12) without incident.
