The City of Houston enhances COVID-19 safety procedures for employees and visitors

Visitors and employees entering City of Houston facilities will be required to wear face-coverings and undergo a no-touch thermometer temperature check beginning today, Monday, June 1, 2020.

Mayor Sylvester Turner previously announced the City of Houston would return to normal operations as employees who have been telecommuting begin reporting to department offices on June 1, 2020.

“As businesses reopen under the Governor’s phased-in approach, the City has prioritized robust testing and contact tracing,” Mayor Turner said. “We also want to ensure the safety of our employees and the public visiting City facilities.”

The City has implemented the following COVID-19 precautions:

  • Temperature checks will be performed at the entrance of all City facilities, and any individual with a temperature of 100.4F/38C or higher will be denied entrance.
  • All individuals on City premises must wear a mask or facial covering upon entry and in any place where social distancing of at least 6 feet cannot be maintained.
  • Enhanced cleaning/disinfecting procedures will continue.
  • Social distancing in the workplace will continue to be encouraged.

Where appropriate, additional measures have been or will be implemented, such as installing plexiglass barriers in some work areas or re-configuring worksites or office spaces.

In this manner, the City will safely transition to reopening and returning to our regular operations schedule.
